Joola once again proves that the German quality company is a firmly established brand in the table tennis sector with the professional rubber series, which was revised in 2023. Within the Tronix series, the Joola Tronix ZGR represents the hard and offensive version – ideal for offensive players (OFF, OFF+).

The so-called Balance Sponge is very hard and firm with a hardness of 56°, popular among advanced players due to its consistent ball rebound. The sponge has fine pores and a flat trajectory, contributing to a direct and fast feel. This rubber is also available in an extra-thick version (approx. 2.3 mm, listed as MAX) in addition to the 2.0 mm version. The thicker the sponge, the more offensively the rubber plays – making the MAX version a real powerhouse for aggressive attackers.

Despite its high hardness, the rubber offers a surprisingly good level of control – especially in passive play and during countering. The topsheet features HS Traction technology, resulting in a very grippy and slightly tacky surface, almost reminiscent of classic Chinese rubbers. This hybrid character enables excellent spin generation and gives the rubber a distinctive identity: it plays like a very hard, fast European rubber but with the spin potential and tack of a Chinese surface.

In practice, the rubber delivers powerful and spin-rich topspins on both forehand and backhand. Particularly in forehand topspin against backspin, the Tronix ZGR shows its strength, generating high speed with little physical effort. Nevertheless, it requires solid technique and good timing to be played effectively – it is clearly not a beginner's rubber. Due to its weight, the rubber makes the racket more top-heavy, which benefits attacking strokes and backhand dynamics, but it also requires players to adapt their timing and accelerate earlier in the stroke.

Over-the-table play is slightly less forgiving due to the short ball contact time and high speed. In blocking, flipping, or short pushes, the control remains acceptable – especially considering the hardness – but expectations should be adjusted accordingly. Spin on serves is excellent, provided the player engages actively, as the hybrid nature of the rubber demands energy input to unfold its full potential. In contrast, softer or passive topspin actions may lack sufficient energy transfer.

Lastly, the price-performance ratio is very good. This model is significantly more affordable than the premium Dynaryz models but can match them in many aspects of performance, making it a top choice for advanced offensive players seeking a high-performance hybrid rubber.
