When it comes to defensive playing systems, the Donic Slice 40 CS is a rubber that is hard to ignore. The abbreviation CS stands for "Chop/Spin", which means chop and rotation or spin. But first, let's take a look at the term "modern defence". You read it again and again, but what does it actually mean? A modern defensive game is characterised by the fact that, on the one hand, there is good security, control and rotation (especially with undercut) in defensive strokes. On the other hand, however, it is also characterised by having enough dynamism and "aggressiveness" available for more offensive rackets.
The characteristics of the Slice 40 CS
Modern hybrid rubber - this is probably the most succinct description of the Slice 40 CS from Donic and means that it has a grippy top rubber in combination with a tension sponge.
This rubber is a pimple-in rubber, which means that the ball contact surface is flat. This makes it all the more important that it has good grip to enable a modern defensive game. This is achieved by the grippy surface, similar to the BlueGrip rubber series. This results in a greater static friction coefficient, which reduces the transition from static to dynamic friction on contact with the ball. In other words, the balls can be set in rotation very well, whether undercut for defensive rackets or topspin for attacking shots. In general, you will also notice the ease of spin when pushing the ball.
The next important feature is the so-called tension sponge (sponge with a lot of tension), which is also found in the Donic Acuda, for example. Such a tension-loaded sponge makes it possible for the ball to be catapulted out when it enters and then leaves the rubber, thus accelerating it. This enables the above-mentioned offensive moves of the rubber. In addition, the sponge of the Donic Slice 40 CS is medium-hard: On the one hand, this guarantees that the ball can penetrate sufficiently deep into the material (thus longer ball contact time), which increases control and feedback (especially with the rubber thicknesses (1.3 and 1.5 mm)). On the other hand, the sponge is at the same time sufficiently "firm" and tensioned to enable the catapult properties and offence just described.
The Donic Slice 40 CS is a brother of the Slice 40 CD and the Slice 40, so to speak, although the Slice 40 can be categorised as somewhat more harmless overall than the Slice 40 CD, e.g. in terms of speed or spin.
